Commandment #7 – Be mobile friendly

MAIN POINTS

  1. Make sure your church website works on smart phones and tablets first!
  2. Make sure you show up in ‘Google Places’ as Android devices use this for GPS navigation.
  3. A full mobile site may not be necessary…

IPHONES AND ANDROIDS AND TABLETS, OH MY!

New devices are coming out every day. It is impossible to test on all of them, but you can do some limited testing within your congregation to ensure that your current homepage is working correctly on all commonly used devices. Just make sure this is working properly. If you are using Flash on the homepage, get rid of it! Flash doesn’t work on Apple devices (iPhone/iPad/iTouch) and can be slow on other devices. Make sure you stick with HTML based standards that work across all devices.

A MOBILE SITE MAY NOT BE NECESSARY

You may be able to use mobile specific CSS stylesheets to further tweek the way your site content appears for mobile / tablet devices.

Alright, moving on to Commandment #8 to discuss how to reach out to your community with your church website!
